Your data stays with you

Short version
- KeyStyle Studio runs on your PC. It doesn't need an account and doesn't send your sets, styles, sounds or samples anywhere.
- The app goes online only for your code: once when you enter it, then a quick check about once a month when the PC is online.
- This website sets no cookies, has no analytics and loads nothing from other sites.
- When you buy, the payment is handled by our reseller, [reseller name] (card), or by [crypto processor] (crypto). They see your payment details. We don't.

The app
KeyStyle Studio reads the set folders you open and writes only where you save. It keeps a few things on your own PC, in the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\SetForge:
- your settings (language, light or dark, your keyboard model);
- the search index: the names of the styles, pads and sounds in your sets, so a search is instant;
- unsaved changes, so they survive a closed window;
- log files from the last seven days, to help when something goes wrong. They never leave your PC unless you send one to us yourself.
Backups of your sets are kept in a "KeyStyle Studio backups" folder next to each set. You can delete them in the app at any time.
The app contains no advertising, no tracking and no analytics, and it doesn't check for updates by itself.
Your code
When you enter your code, the app sends our license server three things: the code, a scrambled one-way number made from your Windows installation’s ID (we can’t turn it back into the ID or learn anything about your PC from it), and the app’s version. The server answers with a signed certificate the app keeps on your PC, so it works without internet. About once a month, when the PC is online, the app sends the same three things again to check that the code is still valid (not refunded, not moved to another PC). If the PC stays offline, the app keeps working for 120 days after the last check. Nothing about you or your sets is ever sent.
The license server keeps: a scrambled copy of your code (not the code itself), your email, the order number, and for each PC the scrambled number and the dates it was activated, checked and released. Like every website, it sees the internet address a request comes from; it uses it only to stop someone trying thousands of codes: it counts the tries of the current hour under a scrambled number made from the address (or from the email typed into “My old PC is gone”), and deletes that count when the hour is over. The address itself is never stored. The license server runs on our own rented server at netcup (netcup GmbH, Karlsruhe) in a data center in Germany. Our code emails are sent through Resend (Resend, Inc.).
Buying
Our reseller, [reseller name], sells KeyStyle Studio for us. It is the seller on your invoice, takes the payment, charges VAT or sales tax where the law requires it, and emails you your code. It handles your name, email, country and payment details under its own privacy policy: [link to the reseller's privacy policy]. From the reseller we receive your name, email, country and what you bought, so we can help you and send your code again if you lose it. We keep this as long as the law requires for sales records, and we never sell it or use it for advertising.
Paying with crypto
If you pay with crypto, [crypto processor] handles the payment under its own privacy policy: [link]. We receive your email address, the amount and the payment's transaction ID, so we can send your download link and code, write the invoice and help you later. If you open the crypto checkout and don’t pay, the email you typed there is deleted after 14 days. Payments on a blockchain are public by nature: anyone can see the transaction, though not who made it.
This website
The website sets no cookies, has no analytics and loads no fonts, scripts or images from other sites. If you switch between light and dark, your own browser remembers that choice on your device (local storage, as ks-theme); it is never sent to us. In the same way it remembers the language you pick for this website (as ks-lang), so the line offering the page in your language doesn't come back. The website runs on the same server at netcup in Germany. Like any website, it keeps technical records of each visit (such as the IP address and the page asked for) for 14 days, to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks, and then deletes them.
If you write to us, we use your message and email address only to answer you.
Your rights
