Version 0.40 · Pa5X for Windows
Everything for your Pa5X set, in one program
Open the set you saved to a USB stick, change what you like, hear it, and save it back with a backup. Here is what KeyStyle Studio does today, and what it doesn’t do yet.
Your set
- See your set like the keyboard’s Style Select screen. Put another set beside it and drag styles, pads, keyboard sets, sounds or whole banks across. Styles bring the user sounds they play, and the sounds bring their samples.
- Rename, move and leave out styles, pads and keyboard sets; rename sounds and banks.
- See where a sound is used, play another sound everywhere instead, merge sounds you have twice, and clean up the sounds and samples nothing plays.
- Check the set against the Pa5X’s 4 GB sample memory before you save.
- Check a set for problems, back it up, undo a save, and copy it to a USB stick.
- Save a report of the set (HTML or text), and save every sample of the set, drum kits too, as WAV files.
Styles and pads
- Play a style on the PC: intros, variations, fills, breaks and endings, on the chords you pick with the PC keys or a MIDI keyboard. Pads play too.
- Or connect the Pa5X by USB and let it play the style itself, with its own sounds, while you pick the chords and sections in the app.
- Draw drums and bass in the Studio. Change notes, velocity, length and timing; humanize, swing, transpose, delete duplicate notes.
- Make a section longer or shorter, add a stop bar, or change its meter. Copy intros, fills and endings from other styles.
- Change each part’s sound, volume, pan, EQ and effects, the Drum Editor, and the style’s four keyboard sets. Hear your version and the original one after the other.
- Edit the chords of intros and endings. Keep chord sequences you use often on the Chord sequences tab, save them as MIDI, and put one into a style.
- MIDI: load a MIDI file into a part, save a part or the whole style as a MIDI file (with a marker at each section), or bring passages of a MIDI song into the style.
- Save a style report: each section’s length and meter, and every part’s sound and notes.
Sounds and samples
- Edit user sounds and drum kits: levels, tuning, ranges, EQ, effects.
- A sample editor: cut, fade, normalize, reverse, make mono, set the loop, pick the root key.
- Record a sample from Line In, or open a WAV, MP3, M4A, OGG or FLAC file.
- Make a user sound from a WAV, build a multisample from several WAVs on a picture of the keyboard, or slice a drum loop into hits.
What you hear on the PC
Your own sounds play their real samples from your set. Korg’s built-in Pa5X sounds belong to the keyboard and aren’t in the set, so similar sounds play in their place, and some parts sound different on the PC. For the real sound, listen on your Pa5X.
Not in this version yet
- Saving new samples compressed. Compressed samples already in your set play on the PC and stay as they are.
- Turning an older .SET set into a .KST. The Pa5X does that itself.
- Round-robin drum layers, and Korg’s locked samples.
- Making a pad from a sliced loop, and REX files.
- Recording notes from a MIDI keyboard into a pattern. You draw them with the mouse.
- Changing the zones of a multisample that is already in your set.
Try these on a copy first
These are new and haven’t been loaded on a Pa5X yet: sections with a new length or meter, multisamples from the builder, and sliced loops. Save a copy of your set, load it on the keyboard and listen before you play live.
